People who have experience buying and selling items on Carousell 

Purpose

To understand Taiwanese Carousellers’ feelings about Carousell and preference of payment and shipping methods

Chi (Student / age 23)

Chi likes to use Shopee the most because it provides a direct “buy now” option, which let buyers skip the step for making offers, and offering a tracking system during the CVS shipping process. Also, Shopee sometimes offers half-price events for shipping, which is a big incentive for buyers to complete the deal.

On Carousell, she thinks second-hand items such as gadgets and makeup are more likely to be sold than on other platforms. She said on other platforms sellers need to pay to promote their items to be seen, whereas on Carousell her items are seen without any promotion. However, she is worried about scams without a formal and safe payment process on Carousell, so she usually shifts to other platforms to finish the deal with buyers.

As for the payment method, cash on delivery is not only flexible for her busy life to pick up and send items but also convenient for her, a student buyer who doesn’t have any credit cards, to pick up and pay for items by cash at the convenience store.

Findings

According to the interviews, cash on delivery is the preferred payment and shipping method for both Moa and Chi. From Chi’s response, we can see that sometimes Chi and her buyers didn’t really fail to deal on Carousell. They just moved to another platform to finish the transaction. If Carousell provides cash on delivery, it’s possible to solve this problem.
